Our Travels in Costa Rica

Versión en Español

Since May of 1997, we have visited some of the many natural beauties Costa Rica has to offer. We would like to share just a few of them with you...

The POAS Volcano, stands defiantly above San Jose. It is part of the Province of Alajuela, and has been very active during the last 25 years.

Poas' Crater

The emerald pond is actually sulfuric acid. This is in reality the volcano's active crater.

More recently we visited the Poas with two very dear friends.

Anny and Tom

On the far left is Anny who is a professor of Spanish as a Second Language here in Costa Rica. On the far right, Tom who visited us all the way from Canada! We hope you come back soon Tom!!!

Poas 4

It was a gorgeous day with clear skies. The cloud on the right is made up of gases emanating from the crater.

Bosques de Chachagua is a hotel located in the middle of the tropical rainforest. Surrounded by a lush vegetation, a couple dozen bungalows provide the visitor with a unique experience. Waking up in the morning to the sound of birds singing and the sight of a toucan nesting just outside your window is awe-inspiring.

Many narrow footpaths take us through the forest and over creeks, the array of colors is breathtaking.

Puntarenas is the traditional vacation spot for most Costa Ricans. It's the closest beach to the capital city of San Jose.

There are many hotels located on the beach front, offering comfortable and affordable accomodations.

Zarcero is a small town famous for its production of cheese and other dairy products, but also for the park located in front of the town's church.

The gardens are carefully kept...

Zarcero 2

The hedges are sculpted in various shapes...

Zarcero 3

All types of figures decorate the gardens...

Zarcero 4

There is even a tiny shrine dedicated to the patron saint...

There are many interesting sites close to San Jose, among these:

loras

The ZooAve is a bird sanctuary that not only exhibits birds.... (there are 4 parrots here, can you find them all?)

Monos

These guys have lots of fun with the visitors, they really put on a show...

Jungle parrot

You'll find birds of all sizes and colors here.

A cozy bed & breakfast is located in one of the most affluent parts of San Jose. The Milvia Hotel is the remodelled home of a former statesman. It combines the nostalgic ambience with all the necessary comforts of home at a very reasonable rate.

It also offers romantic gardens for your pleasure and relaxation...
